Seemingly, it is safe to say that when you have left college for a few years, the only memories you will take with you are the good ones. At least those are the only ones that had not faded away for me. However, upon entering campus today, all the unfortunate parts of college came rushing back. Parking, strange new place, unfamiliarity of buildings, where to go to get stuff taken care of, etc. I honestly do not know where everything (or anything for that matter) is located. So, I am reliant on asking people around me where to go and what to do, ultimately screaming “freshman!” in their faces. haha
According to the website, TJC has adopted a brand new ID badge policy. They require you to wear your ID badge around on a lanyard…who is responsible for this you ask? Campus Safety. Strange. You could get asked or escorted off property if you are found without your badge identifying you as a student. Naturally, all students have a student ID, but since when did Campus Safety get to decide how we should carry them? I wonder if that should make me worry. Do they generally mistake staff for students? Do people go missing? Do we have complete wacko’s walking around the campus that aren’t students or staff? It does make me wonder. I suppose that it wouldn’t be so bad if the line wasn’t wrapped all the way around the entire student center as if I’m at Kings Island waiting to ride something new. Long Lines the first week and last week of school; something I chose to forget. There is nothing awesome about standing in line just to have a bad picture taken and plastered to a card that must be worn around my neck on a very unfashionable lanyard. Also…why don’t most people have their ID cards? Apparently, I’m not the only one that did not attend some freshman orientation. Oh yes, the way a college chooses to make decisions and run the school is something I had all but forgotten until today. I will be standing in that line tomorrow when I have two and a half hours to spare before my tennis lab.
The good stuff though, definitely out-weighs the crazy lines and bad college administrative decisions. Such as: Free GYM & Pool! Sure sure, tuition paid for it, but it’s FREE (with your ID that i don’t have… but soon will). Also, the endless amount of walking around campus that helps keep me fit. Free admission to football games and other sporting events; Discounts at the Movie Theatres again! Free career services, and Free lunches at several of the student union’s 2-3 different days a week. And…as much tennis as one person can possibly stand to play, watch, enjoy. 🙂 Tennis Tech is going to be great. Hopefully, I’ll join the club tennis team where we teach any student wanting to learn to play tennis and go on weekends to play matches with other schools that have club tennis teams! I’ve got a lot to do, and naturally, the school will probably make several things a hassle, but in the end I’m doing this all for the love of the game. Tennis. I am finally choosing to pursue something that actually challenges me mentally and physically to be better, and it will be a challenge. This crazy heat wears me out quickly, so it will take me a while to get used to it. I’m a little tired, a lot thirsty, and a lot hungry…so my creative writing juices are not all there. Hope to talk about the joys of my adventure later when I get a little more settled in!
